Group HR Manager

Location:  Reading, Berkshire

Salary:  £55,000 – £65,000 (DOE) plus benefits

The Group’s customers are predominantly in the banking, insurance, healthcare administration, and business process outsourcing (BPO) sectors, including Nationwide, TD Bank, Elevance, and DXC Technology.

Today, in 2024, we continue to push the boundaries for service operations teams and as a result of continued growth, we are now looking for a Group HR Manager.


The Role

As the Group HR Manager, you will be responsible for all aspects of HR services for our UK and overseas team members in the US, Canada, Ireland, South Africa, India, and Australia.  Reporting to the Head of Group Operations, you will lead the day-to-day activities of the HR function and will be responsible for developing the Group’s HR plan and key initiatives for the coming year.  While working in support of the overall Company strategy, you will be focussed on the delivery of all operational aspects of HR.  In this role, you will also have line management responsibility for the HR Administrator, plus a part-time HR Advisor in the US.

As the Group HR Manager, your key responsibilities will be to:

  • Work closely with the Head of Group Operations and Communications and Engagement Manager to develop and implement the HR Plan.
  • Manage and coordinate all HR communication requirements, working closely with the Communications and Engagement Manager.
  • Monitor and evaluate all aspects of HR via regular feedback and make recommendations for improvement and action.
  • Implement and maintain Group and country-specific employment policies in line with relevant employment legislation and regulations.
  • Administer and develop our benefits offering across our different locations.
  • Develop processes and procedures and ensure the HR elements of SOC2 and ISO270001 audits are passed.
  • Maintain the Group’s recruitment process. Managing the Group’s recruitment activity, working alongside hiring managers, whilst developing and maintaining induction and probation processes.
  • Develop and maintain an accurate and insightful HR management information system.
  • Work with the Group finance team to support efficient payroll processing (payroll is owned by the Finance team).
  • Support line managers to progress HR matters arising from within the team.
  • Manage and develop the annual cycle of objective setting and performance/ development reviews.
  • Work with other managers to build and manage training plans and source training providers.
  • In collaboration with the SLT develop and implement initiatives to support talent and succession planning across the business.

You’ll be a high calibre individual, with high levels of personal drive and eagerness to make an impact. An analytical mind, coupled with strong interpersonal and communication skills and a positive attitude are essential to fit into the ActiveOps culture. You will be equally happy taking a hands-on approach, tackling tasks yourself, as you will be managing the HR team to complete activities.


Knowledge and Experience

  • Good working knowledge of employment law in a commercial environment.
  • Relevant experience gained from either a stand-alone or very hands-on role along with line management experience.
  • Experience with managing the whole employee life cycle.
  • Global HR experience supporting HR needs outside of the UK. (Experience of working with employees based in the USA and their employment practices would be an advantage).
  • Experience in implementing and improving HR processes and procedures.
  • CIPD qualified, with good working knowledge of employment legislation in a commercial environment with experience of explaining legal requirements to managers and employees.
  • Ability to deal with a rapidly changing environment and act on own initiative to improve processes and solve problems as they arise.
  • Strong IT and numeracy skills both in relation to HR-specific systems and the ability to manage data and undertake HR data analysis. The use of HiBob HR Platform would be an advantage.
  • Experience in specifying and managing projects.
